Still, students are afraid of this topic and don’t want to prepare for it. The main reason behind the fear is memorising lots of names along with the instrument.

However, once you memorise all the names, there is no guarantee that you’ll get common in the examination.

We can’t disagree with it, but we suggest you memorise some of the important musical instruments and their exponents.

If you find an easy question in the examination, such as “Pandit Ravi Shankar is associated with which musical instrument?” and you skip the question because you haven’t prepared for this topic, you may fall behind most of the candidates.

We can’t fix the question, but at least we can assure with good preparation that if any easy question comes from “musical instruments and their exponents”, we must not skip.

History of Musical Instruments:

Musical instruments are devices that are developed to make musical sounds. In short, any object that rhythmically produces sound can be considered a musical instrument. A person who plays a musical instrument is known as an instrumentalist.

The history of musical instruments dates since the beginning of human civilisation. In various cultures, musical instruments were used as a part of rituals, such as a horn to signal success on the hunt, or a drum to celebrate a win in a war.

Eventually, musical instruments were developed for performance and entertainment with changing applications and technologies.

It is believed that the first musical instrument was a simple flute, which originated 50000-60000 years ago. However, during the ancient age, musical instruments were made of animal skin, bones, wood, and other non-durable, biodegradable materials.

Some researchers argue that lithophones or stones were used to make sounds during the Stone Age, as found from Sankarjang in India, an example of a prehistoric musical instrument.

The development of musical instruments was slowed down by the 1400s. However, with the emergence of electricity, the evolution of musical instruments found a solid pace and many new instruments emerged.

Here we provide you with a free quiz on this topic to help you revise and practice the topic. Hope you’ll enjoy it.
